Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently summed up what most GOP folks have said:
“It’s time to finally accept the results of the election,” he said, “and move on.”
No offense folks but:
A) Practice What You Preach
and, no offense, but,
B) Methinks You Protest Too Much
You (the GOP) just spent 8 years obstructing EVERY move President Obama made, publically admitted the goal was explicitly obstructive and refused to even consider a legitimate Supreme Court nominee for nearly a year.
Every single argument about the suitability of Justice Gorsuch was equally true of Justice Garland (who GOP did not even give the courtesy of a hearing).
But let’s pretend none of that happened just for kicks and giggles.
I would suspect that at least 2/3rds of the GOP members who voted for Betsy Devos know deep in their heart she is both unqualified and that she would be dangerous as the head of the Department of Education.
For goodness sake, she has been central to destroying Public Education (mostly for the poor and for children of color) here in Michigan.
Still, they almost all voted for her appointment.
Bipartisanship starts at home.
If the GOP wants us on the left to take them seriously, and to start the voyage to a new and lasting comity after we lived through 8 years of the most absurdist obstruction, the GOP will have to show that they truly have the best interests of the people of the United States (not just ideology, relations with the President, or siloed voters) in mind.
For God’s sakes, at least vote against the nominees that you know to be comically unqualified.
Or, shut up and stop the hypocrisy.
